It’s honestly overwhelming to feel like I could write something adequate to sum up Daniel and Susan’s wedding day at The Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Virginia this past weekend.
I’ll start by sharing that Susan is a one of my brides that I have a very personal connection with. Before we moved to Norfolk, Scott and I lived in Northern Virginia where most of our friends would come together once a week to pray together and share are ups and downs. Susan was one of those friends.
Not only did Susan and I meet on Wednesday with our friends, but we met outside as well to get to know each other a little because we felt we had similarities worth connecting over. I’ll always remember a particular time that we went to Cosi and pretty much talked until they closed. She inspired me then, and she still inspires me. One thing I was always in wonder about concerning Susan was how in the earth she was still single. Now, I know why.
Because Daniel is her perfect match, and it wasn’t time for them to meet yet.
When I first got Susan’s e-mail telling me she was engaged, I cried. Cried happy tears of course, but knowing Susan – I knew she didn’t take marriage or engagement lightly and for her to have found someone that she deems worthy of committing her life to, was a big deal. I couldn’t wait to meet him… and I wasn’t disappointed.
Susan is solid, but so is Daniel. Daniel is solid, but he also has one of the best laughs that you’ve ever heard. He also has the most genuine sense to him… like everything he says he means with a deep conviction, and he thinks about it first. You would think that might make him way too serious, but he isn’t. He’s hilarious, and like I said… his laugh fills a room. When they’re together, Daniel can’t take his eyes off of Susan. He looks at her with a look that I couldn’t even describe in words, but can’t wait to show you in pictures. And my friend Susan… she’s so happy. She is so happy and that makes me happy.
As we wrapped up a phone consultation about her timeline, the thing that stuck with me from that conversation with her was how she couldn’t wait to marry Daniel because she’s grown to love and appreciate his character and how he will lead her as a wife even more through pre-marital counseling.
His character. She’s in love with his character.
I have goosebumps even as I’m writing this.
I could probably go on for days about how amazing their wedding day was itself, but alas, I think you came her for the pictures… so I won’t stand too much longer in your way.
I do think you should know that the Oatlands is pretty much one of the most amazing venues that I’ve ever been to. Even though it rained most of the day, we still had a beautifully lit area to do a first look, and had time to run through the gardens with an umbrella for some shots of Susan and Daniel. The house itself is also beautiful with an amazing porch perfect to fit the bridal party. In the end… it was just an incredible day. The rain couldn’t ruin it, although it tried. I think the rain made it even more romantic, honestly.
I now present to you, Daniel and Susan Garza.

Below is Daniel asking his future father-in-law what he felt like on his wedding day when he married Susan’s mom… many years ago. One of my favorite candids of the day (taken by Scott). Pictured below: a group of us at the wedding all from our Wednesday night prayer group in Northern Virginia. So many feelings.
Susan and Daniel… it was an honor.
