It all began with two teenagers who lived in close proximity at an apartment complex in Virginia. They knew of each other back then and there were little crushes, but nothing happened.
Years later, Shane and Aaliyah found themselves both in the same city again after being separated for six years. They weren’t in the city that they originated in, in fact, they had both landed themselves in the city of Norfolk, VA. They reconnected when Aaliyah was a freshman and realized that Shane was in Norfolk serving in the military. They just happened to get together over dinner to reconnect when Aaliyah realized what a gentleman Shane was. She hadn’t originally seen their reconnection as a potential date, but as the night went on and she couldn’t stop smiling, she realized this could be something more.
“He was so handsome, charming, and he made me laugh more than I had in such a long time! From that day on, I knew that our friendship would soon blossom into so much more. This was the one person who had finally shown he how I should truly be treated. As the months went by, we began to fall so deeply in love with one another. Ever since then, we haven’t looked back!”
Their relationship blossomed indeed and eventually landed them both on the beach for a last minute session before Shane left on a seven month deployment overseas. The couple wanted to make sure they had some pictures together as memento and encouragement in their relationship while Shane was gone. After one of their poses, Aaliyah realized that standing behind Shane was two of his little sisters wearing shirts that were different than usual…
“Once the photographer told us that I could stop posing, I looked forward only to see his two little sisters sporting cute little t-shirts…meant for me. One read, “Will you” and the other one read, “Marry me?” I was so in shock that it took quite awhile for it to actually register in my mind that he was asking for my hand in marriage!”
On that day, shortly before Shane left for the Middle East, he wanted Aaliyah to know that she was the only one for him for the rest of their lives. She of course, said yes.
